SEATTLE TAKES TO THE SIDEWALK : ALREADY THE SIXTH MOST CONGESTED CITY IN THE US, SEATTLE'S POPULATION IS SET TO GROW BY 50% BY 2020
This article describes the SmartTrek project that is taking place in the Seattle metropolitan area. Selected as one of the four U.S. Model Deployment Initiative (MDI) programs, SmartTrek focuses on relieving the Seattle area of the traffic congestion through an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). Comprised of over 25 projects, the goal of the program is to: provide better information to the public about traffic flow and transit operations, speed responses to emergencies and traffic incidents, and link traffic management centers so that operations are coordinated.
