LGORU COMPASS SUITE. CAR OWNERSHIP AND TRIP GENERATION PROGRAM COMMENCE: A USERS' GUIDE

The report describes trip generation program commence which combines car ownership and household trip production models. The basic data requirements of the model are the area of each zone, the number of households and the population in each zone for the base year and forecast years, and base year car ownership levels for each 'district' (either zones or aggregations of zones). Ideally base year information on household income and trip making should also be provided in order to calibrate the models for the particular study area. Commence is a program for estimating home-based trip productions separately by journey purpose, for zones within a study area. It can also be used to estimate the total number of non-home-based trips made by members of households within the study area, but a separate model must be used to determine their production zone, and to estimate trip attractions by zone. After a description of the models, the remaining chapters of this report describe the stages of use of the model: calibrating the model, modelling the base year situation, and forecasting future trip productions. Appendix a describes the input and output requirements of the program, and appendix b contains the detailed coding instructions for the card input. /TRRL/
