3-D SIMULATIONS OF DEWATERING IN CENTRAL COPENHAGEN FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW METRO
Much of the construction work for the Copenhagen Metro will take place below the groundwater level. In order to avoid damage to the surrounding ground and structures any groundwater lowering which occurs as a result of construction must be minimized. This paper presents a groundwater modeling strategy that has been implemented in order to predict the drawdown levels over a wide area as a result of water discharged at individual sites. The benefits of using a sophisticated numerical technique to solve practical problems are clearly demonstrated; results from the modeling strategy are used successfully to formulate effective and economic groundwater control measures.
