TGV MEDITERRANEE HIGH-SPEED RAIL VIADUCTS NEAR AVIGNON: EFFICIENCY OF PRESSUREMETER METHODS FOR FOUNDATION INVESTIGATIONS
TGV MEDITERRENEE: EFFICACITE DES METHODES PRESSIOMETRIQUES DANS L'ETUDE DES FONDATIONS DES VIADUCS D'AVIGNON
The foundation investigations for viaducts carrying the new TGV Mediterranee high-speed rail lines across the Rhone south of Avignon involved pressuremeter tests, nothing else. These tests were analyzed and a general synthesis drawn up in a rational manner - and not in the more usual subjective way - using simple statistical methods that attributed to each lithological layer a value representing its own unique mechanical characteristics. By making the results more reliable, this facilitated the design of the foundations and demonstrated the value of pressuremeter tests even for the design of exceptional structures.
