SOIL IMPROVEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
AMELIORATION DES SOLS ET PROTECTION DE L'ENVIRONNEMENT
Soil improvement implies modification of soil properties in order to improve the capacity to support building structures while the legislation for the environmental protection is directed to reduce or even avoid the impact of human activities in the surroundings, in particular in the area of soil improvement for the infrastructure and phreatic aquifers. There is, therefore, a contradiction between both intentions. This paper shows by some examples and by a general overview the problems that more and more oppose the civil engineer in his application of traditional methos of soil improvement.
