SOME OPERATIONS ON COMPONENTS FOR VERY LARGE DIESEL ENGINES
Basic and simple, yet effective machining practices are used in the production of components for very large marine diesel engines at Doxford and Sunderland Ltd. Details are given of the manufacture of bedplates, cylinder liners, and crankshafts which are built-up from a number of separately-machined items that are assembled by heating and shrinking, to produce two longitudinal 'halves' which are later joined.
