RESIDUAL STRESSES AND DISTORTION IN WELDED ALUMINUM STRUCTURES AND THEIR EFFECTS ON SERVICE PERFORMANCE
Aluminum alloys are widely used for aerospace, marine, chemical process, civil engineering and other structures. One problem engineers face with aluminum welding fabrication is residual stresses. Another major problem is warpage. The design considerations from the broad technology of fabricating metal structures are related to the special problems of aluminum and aluminum alloys. Methods are recommended to reduce the effects of residual stresses and distortion in these structures, the ultimate goal of these methods being to improve the reliability of welded aluminum structures.
