DESIGN OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE

The background of this book is the British standard code of practice for the structural use of concrete (cp 110: 1972), but it also refers to the American code ac1 318:71. The book commences with a short account of the limit state approach to design before going on to explain the respective methods of analysis of prestressed concrete for the serviceability and ultimate limit states. This section includes a number of tables for reference and to reduce the length of some of the routine calculations. There follows the description of A method of selecting and dimensioning prestressed members with pretensioned or post-tensioned tendons and the succeeding examples introduce some of the standard sections which have now been fairly widely adopted. A chapter is devoted to composite construction which is one of the most extensive current applications of prestressed concrete, particularly in highway bridge construction, and the book concludes with an introduction to the methods of analysis and design of statically indeterminate prestressed structures. /TRRL/
