SEISMIC RESISTANCE WITH CONCRETE RING
This article describes construction of a large structure in Strasbourg, France which has been made seismic resistant. The new facility, which uses prestressed flooring around an interior concrete ring to handle expansion and contraction problems, consists of three components: a 72 m (236 ft) high cylindrical tower with a vertical channel cut out to face the city's cathedral; an 8-story crescent-shaped link building that houses meeting rooms and the press center; and within the crescent-shaped building, a vast semicircular auditorium for staging Parliamentary debates.
