FULL-SCALE MEASUREMENTS OF STRESSES IN THE BULKCARRIER M.V. OSSENDRECHT. PART 2: THE SPECTRAL ANALYSIS, THE DISTRIBUTION OF AMPLITUDES, THE DISTRIBUTION OF HEIGHTS, THE SQ CHI TEST
To find corroboration of the validity of predictions obtained along theoretical methods, full scale measurements of sea wave induced stresses were carried out on the bulk carrier Ossendrecht. Since the measurements concern a statistical variable, the reduction and analysis were performed according to the theory of statistics. Data processing and the theory concerned is treated viz. the characteristics of the spectra, the distribution of amplitudes, the distribution of all heights (with and without zero-crossing), the distribution of heights with zero-crossing only, and the significance of the sq Chi test. One of the main conclusions is that the sq Chi test in general resulted in satisfactory agreement of the distributions of heights with zero-crossing and the Rayleigh distribution law. However, the connection with the spectral characteristics is loosened by neglecting the heights without zerocrossing. Since stress-response to waves was found to be broad-banded, the ideal assumption of 8 m sub zero = E (the mean square of the height values) is not fulfilled. (Author)
