ATSSA WORKS TO PROMULGATE NCHRP-350 TEST REQUIREMENTS
With a compliance date of October 1, 1998, members of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Crash Testing Task Force met in Chicago on May 1, 1998, to further discuss the impact of the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) guidance memo regarding work-zone devices. Two groups were formed--one for barricades and one for sign stands--to begin the process of identifying generic designs of these devices and eventually begin crash testing. After a satisfactory "crash" is completed, ATSSA will petition FHWA to consider moving these devices to category one to enable traffic control companies to produce and deploy a generic form of these devices under the self-certification clause within the guidance memo.
