EVALUATION OF THE MICHIGAN TRIAL SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE INSPECTION PROGRAM

How effective is the checklane vehicle inspection conducted by the State of Michigan? How effective would a checklane inspection system be that inspected on the average 15% of the state's vehicles, coupled with an increased public awareness campaing. How would such a system compare with a periodic inspection? Which procedure, a moving stopping test or a wheel pull inspection is better for evaluating the braking system? These are some of the questions addressed by a current study conducted by HSRI jointly with the MSP and OHSP.
