NON DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF ASPHALT MIXTURES BY ULTRASONIC METHODS
This paper reports on the ultrasonic method (pulse testing), which is well known as one of the non-destructive tests of cement concrete to measure dynamic E-moduli and other moduli, and performed to evaluate the structure of asphalt mixtures. In this paper, experiments performed by the ultrasonic testing method measured the followings: (1) the dynamic E-moduli, dynamic G-moduli, and Poisson's ratio of the asphalt mixture specimens measured with ultrasonic testing equipments according to temperature variation; (2) the dynamic E-moduli and strain hardening of the specimens after repeated compressive loadings; (3) the compressive strength and moduli of the specimens after repeated compressive loadings. It is shown that, those moduli vary greatly under the influence of temperature. As temperature rises, dynamic E-moduli and dynamic G-moduli decrease, while dynamic Poisson's ratio increases. The dynamic E-moduli of asphalt mixtures ot which the repeated compressive loadings are applied, increase temporarily, while dynamic Poisson's ratio decreases. The greater the compressive strength exhibits, the higher the dynamic E-moduli are observed. For the covering abstract of the proceedings, see IRRD 490713.
