A FEASIBILITY STUDY OF NATIONAL TRANSPORT MODELLING FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM
The paper explains the benefits sought from national transport modelling for the UK, the thinking behind the approach taken to assessing feasibility, and key findings of the Feasibility Study, in particular on: (a) the recommended structure for a National Policy Model needing to be sensitive to issues of spatial detail where these are important for policy, but also limiting spatial detail sufficiently to ensure acceptable run times and to keep down data requirements and cost; (b) the recommended approach to constructing national detailed multi-modal base matrices for passengers and freight, bearing in mind the modelling objectives; and (c) a review of relevant European national transport modelling practice, and the lessons for a possible UK national transport model.
