There are 12 chapters: (1) What is a highway?; (2) creation of highways; (3) responsibilty for maintenance of highways; (4) Liability of the Highway Authority for accidents on the highway; (5) Ownership of highways and public rights of passage; (6) Maintenance of highways and bridges; (7) Improvements to highways and construction of new roads; (8) Making up private streets; (9) Works in the highway; (10) Traffic regulation; (11) Footpaths, bridleways and byways; (12) Diversion and extinguishment of the highway. There is a detailed subject index, and list of the legislation covered. The author views this book as a successor to Pratt and Mackenzie's Law of Highways, published in 1967.
