It is important to be able to demonstrate that the quality of concrete construction is at a safe but not inappropriately high level. Random sampling is open to risks; these risks must be kept within acceptable limits. The only acceptable guarantee of quality is furnished by acceptance inspections. Statistical quality control gives information on the general quality level. Present tests on cubes provide subsequent documentation of this, and the probability that serious defects will be detected is low. These must therefore be found by other observations. This study deals with objective criteria for the choice of test frequency. Three criteria of quality are examined and analysed, as well as test methods and frequencies relating to finished structures. /TRRL/
