This paper deals with the fundamental elements considered for the choice of the structure of the engine assembly, particularly the layout of the cylinders. A technical analysis is provided for the choice of: location of the camshaft, drive of the distribution, sizes of bearings, structure of bearing caps and block reinforcing ribs. Particular attention is given to the selection of a fuel injection and emission control system to meet applicable regulations. The paper will also deals with the lubrication and cooling systems particular to this engine. /GMRL/
