TRIP DEPENDABILITY IN AUTOMATED GUIDEWAY TRANSIT SYSTEMS
The public acceptance of Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) systems will require that they provide dependable service. An important component of dependability is the capability to restore service and minimize delays to passengers when an equipment failure occurs. The control and reconfiguration of the system under such circumstance is called "failure management." This report examines the possible responses to a failure that failure management might undertake and identifies the information needed to implement them. A framework for quantitatively evaluating various strategies is indicated, and a method for relating the performance of the strategies to equipment failure rates is provided.
