ECONOMIC COMPARISONS OF 40,000 SHP PROPULSION PLANTS

This report presents total acquisition costs and annual operating costs for 40,000 SHP propulsion plants in three ship types; Tanker, Containership and LNG Carrier. For the first two, comparisons are drawn between Diesel plants, Non-Reheat and Reheat Steam plants. For the LNG carrier, two Non-Reheat Steam plants are presented to illustrate the potential gains due to improvements in cycle efficiency. All prices are based on U.S. Dollars for machinery delivered in U.S.A. in January 1975; fuel and lube oil prices are those applicable for International use on February 1, 1975. The report is divided into five (5) sections. Section I is general in content and includes discussion of factors common throughout the report. Sections II, III and IV contain summary results and supporting data for the Tanker, Containership and LNG Carrier respectively. Section V contains the Steam plant heat balances applicable to the various power plants.
