BULK CARRIER OPERATIONS SAFETY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT. PHASE I

Appropriate scale modeling methods for studying liquid petroleum cargo shiptank electrostatics, washing and atmosphere control phenomena are established and evaluated. A review of currently available full and model scale study data and implications of this data in view of the developed modeling criteria are presented. Recommended laboratory studies in the areas of atmosphere control, tank washing and electrostatics are discussed with emphasis on the utilization of additional laboratory data supplementing current knowledge to develop definitive design and operation guidelines.
