A HUMAN FACTORS EVALUATION OF THE CONTAINER GANTRY CRANES AT VICTORIA DEEP WATER TERMINAL
The purpose of this report is to illustrate to port operators some of the concepts and techniques used in the human factors approach to equipment design in order that all may benefit by its application to future systems. The report itself consists of three major parts: In Part One the present gantry crane system, that is the system as it was at the beginning of the study, is described. Part Two is concerned with the evaluation of the present system and covers such topics as interviews with the operator training. In Part Three a constructive approach is taken and recommendations are put forward which it is hoped will overcome some of the problems highlighted in Part Two.
