THE QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF BLAST FURNACE SLAG IN CEMENTS
DIE QUANTITATIVE BESTIMMUNG VAN HUTTENSAND IN ZEMENTEN
The density separation method with chemical correction enables the blastfurnace slag content of cement to be determined very accurately. The amount of effort and laboratory equipment involved remain within acceptable limits. In a somewhat modified form the method is particularly suitable for the routine checking of cements containing slag, both by the cement manufacturer and by others. Determination of trass and fly-ash content is also possible and is successfully applied in Austria. On the evidence of experience the accuracy of the determinations can be put at plus or minus 0.5% for blastfurnace slag and at plus or minus 2% for trass and fly-ash. In comparison with other methods it has the advantage that no assumptions as to the content of reference elements and SO3 have to be made.
