VEHICLE NOISE FROM COARSE TEXTURE PAVEMENTS
TRAFIKBUILER FRAAN GROV VAEGYTA
The present study was a comparison between vehicle induced noise from roads with surface dressings with maximum particle size between 16 and 25 mm. Reference tests were made on neighbouring pavements with asphaltic concrete. The measurements were made on road E3 near Matiefred and road E4 between Sundsvall and Harnosand, all being test roads. The vehicle was run at 70 km/hour with the engine idling during the measurements. The difference found between the noise levels from dressings with different chip size was 2-3 db, whereas the difference between surface dressing and asphaltic concrete amounted to 5-10 db. The difference between summer tyres and studded winter tyres was 3-5 db.(a) /TRRL/
