ASPECTS OF PERCEPTION OF TRAFFIC SIGNS
WAARNEMINGSASPECTEN VAN VERKEERSTEKENS
From experimental and field tests it is shown that not more than two traffic signs should be placed on the same spot. It was not studied how far this also applies to traffic signs placed within a short distance of each other. It is likely, however, that the intervening distance plays an important role in the perception of traffic signs in a row. The perception of traffic signs with symbols is greater than of signs with letters. Physical enforcement of traffic behaviour is needed where traffic signs do not help. Alternatives to traffic signs are rumble strips and carriageway marking. Uniformity of traffic signalization is of great importance. /TRRL/
