RISK TAKING AS A DECISION PROCESS IN DRIVING
This report considers risk taking and decision making in driving in terms of the theory of signal detection and discusses the possible advantages that may be had in so doing. An analysis is given of data obtained from the experiment conducted at the University of Queensland in which signal detection measurements of the performance of drivers in negotiation of gaps were obtained. The possible relevance of drivers risk taking, as analyzed in signal detection terms, to general road safety improvement measures is also discussed. /Author/
