SOUND EMISSION BY PASSENGER CARS AND TRUCKS ON MOTORWAYS
GELUIDSEMISSIE DOOR PERSONENAUTO'S EN VRACHTWAGENS OP AUTOSNELWEGEN
Reference sound levels, corresponding with source strength, have been measured for passenger cars as a function of speed and for different kinds of trucks as a function of speed and gross weight. From measurements and calculations of the time history of the sound level of passing vehicles, it appears that passenger cars can fairly accurately be described as acoustical monopolies. For trucks, more or less systematic differences are found between the calculated and the measured time history. When calculating the equivalent sound level, however, the differences cancel out and consequently can be neglected. The acoustic source strengths of single vehicles have been estimated from the measured reference levels and the transmission losses which were measured with a loudspeaker. /TRRL/
