INFLUENCE OF COLLISION SPEED AND VEHICLE PARAMETERS ON THE SEVERITY OF INJURIES SUSTAINED BY PEDESTRIANS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS

EINFLUSS VON KOLLISIONSGE-SCHWINDIGKEIT UND FAHRZEUGPARAMETER AUF DIE VERLETZUNGSSCHWERE BEI FUSSGAENGERUNFAETLEN

The evaluation of real pedestrian accidents, the number of which does not allow statistical significant statements so far, results in the following tendencies: (1) collision speed of heavy passenger cars is on an average lower than of lighter passenger cars; (2) in minor accidents children are more endangered than adults, severe accidents cause less serious injuries on children than on adults; (3) the secondary strike on the ground causes altogether a lower injury degree than the primary strike against the car; (4) vehicle with different frontal shape produce a different degree of danger according to its speed level; (5) at the same collision speed the parameter "vehicle mass" seems to have an unfavourable effect on the injury degree while the effect of the parameter "length of hood" seems to be favourable. /Author/TRRL/
