PHOTOCHEMICAL REACTIONS OF AUTO-EMISSIONS
Photochemical reactions of auto-exhaust in atmosphere are simulated under a controlled condition in the environmental chamber. On the reactions of several representative hydrocarbons and auto-emissions, the author has revealed the effects of temperature, irradiation intensity, relative humidity, concentrations of hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen, and sulphur dioxide. Propene-oxides of nitrogen photochemical reactions are pursued under many combinations of the initial concentrations, and the ozone formations are made clear experimentally in wide conditions, as well as the numerical reaction model was synthesized with 26 equations concerning 20 substances and the reaction results would be predicted. The exhaust gas of a conventional gasoline powered vehicle is tested in a decimal range of hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen concentrations, compared with propene-oxides of nitrogen reaction system. The effects of fuel compositions on the exhaust reactivities are investigated. Usually the olefin contents in gasoline have a considerable effect on the exhaust reactivities. Generally in the cases of hot start of low emission vehicles, the exhaust hydrocarbons are very low concentration, so that the photochemical reactions are very slow and the ozone formation is scarcely in 6 hours irradiation. The reactivities of auto-exhaust in a city driving mode are ranged in 1/4 - 1/7 (ppm/ppmc) compared with propene regarding the ozone maximum and the formation rate. /TRRL/
