ELECTRONIC AID FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION

AIDE ELECTRONIQUE A LA CARBURATION

The author defines the conception of an electronic aid applied to the carburettor of spark ignition engines. On board the vehicle, the system helps to protect the environment (reducing pollution in the atmosphere), it reduces energy waste (consumption), it assists in maintaining control durability and in keeping them in good working order. The device is part of the group of closed loops systems. After a brief reminder of the different possible types of actuators and detectors in such a system, the author specifies the reasons for the choice. He gives a description of the device's components, how they work, their characteristics, and finally their implantation in cars and vehicles. The experimental results obtained over a number of vehicles, mainly European, are shown, specifying the test procedures used. These results show, in particular, the effective value of the device in reducing atmospheric pollution and fuel consumption. Furthermore, a number of quantitative ideas on reactions of the control system versus excitations is coming from the vehicle's behaviour itself or from external conditions. /TRRL/
