NOMOGRAPH CALCULATES HEAT LOSS FROM INSULATED PIPES
Heat loss from an insulated pipe is largely determined by the thickness and thermal conductivity of the insulation and the temperature difference between the process fluid and the atmosphere. A nomograph for finding the heat loss from insulated pipe (or heat gain from the piping to a space) is presented, based on the formulae for convection and radiation heat flow from a horizontal pipe and an insulation resistance of approximately 2.5 in. of thickness for 85% magnesia. Factors are applied to convert to other types of insulation.
