METAL FATIGUE: SOME PRACTICAL ASPECTS
The Authors have attempted to present the essential aspects of fatigue fracture interpretation and to show how this can sometimes be of value to the designer, whose difficulties are also outlined. The design problem is involved, and can only be described adequately by recourse to far more detailed and a study of published literature. If failure is associated with a notch effect and no metallurgical factor is found to be involved, then the stresses are simply above the fatigue strength of the component.
