BUOYANT ANODE GIVES CATHODIC PROTECTION FOR NORTH SEA RIG
A method employing two anodes each of 300 amps instead of the conventional sixty 10-amp anodes located throughout the structure reduce the weight on the platform, reduce the probability of failure caused by a multiplicity of unsatisfactory mountings, and enable diver inspection of the structure to be carried out even when the cathodic protection system is switched on the no risk to the driver from electric shock. The method will enable accurate potential measurements to be made on the structure while cathodic protection is applied. Examples are given.
