INTEGRATED GUYED TOWER
Oil field developments will require the introduction of new production systems as operations move into deeper water. This article highlights the guyed tower, a new platform concept developed by Exxon, which extends the water depth limit of bottom-founded drilling/production platforms to about 600 meters. For water depths beyond some 200 meters, it is anticipated the guyed tower can provide an economic advantage over fixed platforms that could be significant in justifying development of offshore hydrocarbon reserves.
