AKER BALLASTING SYSTEM POSITIONS CONDEEP
Efficient, accurate and safe installations of the giant production platform Statfjord "A" in the North Sea recently was aided by a specially developed ballasting system described here. At touchdown, the Condeep (concrete deepwater structure) platform was only 10 m. off bull's eye of the target area, 0.6 degree off the desired platform orientation, and 0.067 degree off horizontal after grouting. The system incorporates large parts of the permanent (oil storage) ballast system.
