TAPERED ROLLER BEARING TRACTION MOTOR SUSPENSION

The paper reviews some of the early history of tapered roller bearing motor suspension and discusses the designs used along with the lubrication practices. In addition, it shows that the trend in the United States, as well as in many other parts of the world is to use tapered roller bearing traction motor suspension for new electric and diesel-electric locomotives in an effort to reduce locomotive maintenance costs, increase availability, and conserve costly petroleum products.
