UNDERPASSES PENETRATE A MAZE OF OBSTACLES
The paper reports how two underpasses surrounded by busy railroads were constructed by shoring them up with a series of tiebacks to head off future problems. Deep, sharply angled holes were made for tiebacks and concrete piles, and a massive bulkhead system was used to support the shoofly during excavation and construction of bridges alongside the tracks.
