COMMUNICATIONS FOR TRANSPORTATION: IMPLICATIONS FOR TRAFFIC ENGINEERING

"Telecommunting"--the substitution of telecommunications and computer technologies for the trip to and from work--will bring about more and more decentralization of urban business organizations. This decentralization, if constrained by proper land use management, will have as a result that an increasing part of the work force will commute shorter distances to their places of employment. The consequences will be significant changes in rush-hour traffic. The Univesity of Southern California undertook a two-year study of such telecommuting. /Author/
