OFFSHORE STRUCTURES--SITE INVESTIGATION AND FOUNDATIONS

The proceedings of a conference held last year at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London on the Design and Construction of Offshore Structures are described. A total of 17 Papers were presented and discussed, eight of which dealt with subjects ranging from concrete platform construction procedures and marine operations, prestressing and grouting, temperature stresses and steel decks, to corrosion protection, instrumentation and risk analysis. Of the other Papers, four were specifically concerned with site investigation and surveys, and the testing and design of the foundations for gravity and piled structures. A further five Papers, which were devoted primarily to offshore project and structural developments, included many matters of interest to foundation engneers. It is these nine Papers that are considered in this review, which was prepared prior to the publication of the proceedings from notes made at the conference; where relevant, the review has included some personal comments. /Author/
