DEFICIENCIES OF AND POTENTIAL FOR IMPROVING THE PRESENT SAFETY BELT SYSTEM

MANEGEL UND VERBESSERUNGSMOEGLICHKEITEN BEI HEUTIGEN SICHERHEITSGURTSYSTEMEN

A study of accidents involving passengers wearing safety belts highlights certain deficiencies in the various safety belt types currently in use. An attempt is to be made to better understand the dynamics of safety belts by means of new techniques of reconstruction. The authors describe those deficiencies determined within a framework of accidents examined up to this point and suggest possible improvements, e.g. The optimal positioning of anchorage points, selection of belt material, central clasps and safety swivel seats. /TRRL/
