DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING THE COMPACTION OF PAVEMENT LAYERS

UN MODULE DE SURVEILLANCE DU COMPACTAGE DES COUCHES DE CHAUSSEES

After recalling the problems arising from a-posteriori compaction control the authors emphasize the importance of controlling quality factors. Those quality factors are reviewed: (1) selection of the size of the compaction plant, and (2) definition of the modes of operation of the compaction equipment. Details are given of a device developed for the control of compaction. This device facilitates the collection of data (rate of progress, vibration frequency, working time, position along the transverse profile) and the reading and recording of the information for which a solution similar to that of the Kienzle tachograph has been adopted. An example is given. /TRRL/
