EXHAUST GAS ANALYSIS WITH GAS CHROMATOGRAPH AND CHEMOLUMINESCENCE ANALYSER

EIN ABGASANALYSENVERFAHREN MIT GAS-CHROMATOGRAPH UND CHEMOLUMINESZENZANALVSATOR

The method described requires a sample size of only about 1 millilitre. The measuring apparatus is described in detail. Among other things the apparatus was improved by installing gas cleaners instead of molecular screens. A table gives information concerning the evaluation parameters for qualitative and in part also, quantitative analysis of several substances, e.g. Nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen oxide, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, propane, methanol, etc. For the quantitative evaluation of the oxydation stages no and nox of nitrogen, a procedure involving determination of their relative proportions with the aid of a chemoluminescence analyser was developed. Under the stated conditions the lower limits for quantitative analysis lie at 5 ppm and 500 ppm respectively depending on the recording system. The system has been tested on a diesel engine, an otto-cycle engine and a compression chamber. It is suitable for widespread use without further development. /TRRL/
