HOT-COATING OF CHIPPINGS FOR SURFACE DRESSINGS
LE LAQUAGE DES GRAVILLONS POUR ENDUITS SUPERFICIELS
This brief note gives some information on the use of chippings hot-coated with hard pitch. A tabulated comparison is made between the results obtained in 1972 at an average temperature with an EFT 50 degrees pitch and 80/100 bitumen. In 1973 during the warm weather, both types of aggregates adhered to tyres; this is why the EVT of the pitch was raised to 60 degrees. This has been used for four years in the eastern part of France and it has the following advantages: (1) instantaneous adhesion; (2) fines agglomerate and cease to be harmful; (3) black mat finish; (4) the proportioning of the binder becomes superfluous. There is one disadvantage: the cost is increased by 0,30 to 0,40 f/square meter. /TRRL/
