ROAD SAFETY. WANTED: SOMEONE TO PICK UP THE PIECES
This article surveys the general apathy towards the use of seat belts and gives reasons for it. The need for effective advertizing is noted as is the fact that insufficient money is available from central government for propaganda. The results of interviews with general public concerning the use of seat belts, and drinking and driving are given. The ignorance of drivers of penalties for the latter is emphasized. The role of local government road safety officers, the shortage of finance for their work, and whether a government road safety minister would help the situation is considered. /TRRL/
