THE PREPARATION, PROPERTIES AND POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS OF EPOXY-SILICONE PRODUCTS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

LES EPOXY-SILICONES - PREPARATION, PROPRIETES ET APPLICATIONS POSSIBLES EN GENIE CIVIL

The authors describe three possibilities of combining epoxy resins and silicone: the silicone may be use as an admixture in epoxy systems, as an agent to modify the epoxy base or as a hardener for epoxy resin. The addition of small quantities (smaller than 1%) of silicone containing active hydrogen atoms results in expansive epoxy systems due to the reaction between this type of silicone and the amine hardener of the epoxy resin. Details are given of the modification of epoxy resins varying in nature by condensation with hydroxyl and methoxyl silicone resins. The technological properties of the resins reticulated with amine compounds show the influence of the structure of the epoxy resin and of the silicone resin. The condensation of a hydroxyl compound such as a monoalcohol with a fairly long molecular chain, on an aminosilane containing alkoxy groups leads to a reduction in brittleness of the systems reticulated with non-modified aminosilane and gives flexible hardeners for epoxy resins. They were tested in various applications: anti-corrosion waterproofing coats, concrete adhesives, anti-wear coatings. /TRRL/
