ON THE CALCULATION OF SPRINGING VIBRATION IN IRREGULAR WAVES (FIRST REPORT)
After mentioning that a study has been made of a calculation method for springing vibration in irregular waves, the Authors describe the calculation of the response, in regular waves, of three tankers (130,000, 230,000, and 280,000 dwt). This calculation was carried out to investigate tendencies in springing phenomena. It was found that as ship size increases, the response becomes greater. Also, in the smallest of these ships responses of 2nd and 3rd resonance were found to be very small in comparison with that of primary resonance; in the two larger ships, responses of 2nd and 3rd resonance were not negligible.
