MITSUBISHI ENTERS THE ECONOMY STAKES
Describes Mitsubishi's (MHI) design of Advanced Marine Propulsion Plant--D/MAP--a propulsion package based on four principal subsystems; a medium speed diesel engine; a low speed controllable-pitch propeller; and, for waste heat recovery, an exhaust gas economiser and a combined turbo/shaft generator. By comparison with low-speed diesel propulsion plant, the system is said to effect fuel savings of up to 20 per cent.
