FIRES IN PASSENGER SHIPS, CONTAINER SHIPS, AND VLCC'S
The subject here deals with operational fire-fighting techniques on large passenger liners, container ships and very large crude carriers (VLCCs) in port. This article is on a purely practical theme and those ships with a tonnage of over 20,000 are largely referred to. The overall problems are no less in ships under 20,000 tons, but it will be appreciated that there is a distinct tendency for the control and final extinction to become more difficult as the size increases.
