THYRISTOR-CONTROLLED JIB CRANE FOR WHARF USE AT OITA WORKS, NIPPON STEEL CORPORATION

IHI has recently developed the thyristor-controlled jib crane, a new type of jib crane having higher performance and compactness than the conventional jib crane, for use with the cargo handling gear at sea, port and quay. This equipment is excellent especially in dampproof, corrosionproof and quakeproof qualities because of its superior design and manufacture, under adequate consideration of the conditions of installation location, based on IHI's excellent techniques accumulated through the manufacturing of a large number of deck cranes. The thyristor leonard system is used for hoisting the equipment, and the wound-rotor type induction motor controlled by the thyristor is used for slewing the equipment. Compared with the conventional jib crane for use with the cargo handling gear, this crane has many outstanding features, such as short cargo handling cycles on account of its accurate location for loading, smooth acceleration and deceleration by notchless control, easy maintenance and low noise. This crane is available for use with cargo handling gear when handling various materials covering miscellaneous goods including lumber and containers, etc.
