BEARING CONSIDERATIONS WHEN UPRATING MEDIUM-SPEED ENGINES
In medium speed engines, it is found that as engines are uprated, the minimum oil-film thickness is generally the limiting factor. The fatigue strength of bearing alloys is also discussed, and it is suggested that greater use have to be made of thinner lead-tin overlay (0,01-0,02 MM). It is shown how fretting can be caused by inadequate support of the back of the bearing, and a note on corrosion is included.
