HOW TO CALCULATE THE POWER REQUIRED TO PROPEL A VESSEL USING A NOMAGRAPH
The article shows how to calculate the required SHP to drive the vessel, providing vessel displacement, vessel cruising speed, and the "admiralty coefficient" are known. A typical example involving the power required to drive a 700 ft motor vessel at a cruising speed of 18.5 knots and at a displacement of 40,000 long tons is worked through.
